Made up of 3-9 hole courses you can play this course multiple times and have a different experience each time. This is a review of the Desert 9 hole side

What they say
Combining playability with aesthetic beauty, The Phoenician's 27-hole championship facility is comprised of three memorable nines, each named for its surrounding landscape – Canyon, Desert and Oasis. Pristine desert views, lush tropical scenery, water features and all of the amenities that make golf a pleasure await you. The Phoenician has been named one of the four “Best Golf Resorts” by the Robb Report and is ranked among the “Top 75 Golf Resorts in America” by Golf Digest thanks to course designers Ted Robinson, Sr. and Homer Flint. Currently managed by Troon Golf, the leader in upscale golf course management, The Phoenician offers a truly spectacular setting to enjoy golf as its finest.

What we say
A great track with many great views of surrounding Scottsdale and Camelback Mountain. The course is well maintained with crisp fairways and well manicured greens. The challenging holes offer a variety of shot shapes. It is easy to get lulled into a solid round only to be awoken by a dreaded triple bogey because the course challenges your accuracy. We will be back at the Phoenician to continue to go after the beautiful rounds that are available.

Hole 1: Pretty straight forward hole. Dogleg right with bunkers on both sides. Cartpath only on this hole. Out of bounds right. Green has a slight false front.

Hole 2: Driving range on the left. 250 yards from the back tees to the middle of the middle bunker on the left. There is a hidden bunker fro 120 out all the way to the green on the left side. Hit lay up shot to the right to give a good angle at a flat green protected in the front by a bunker and back by grassy mounds.

Hole 3: Short par 4 – 300 yards. Green is surrounded by water.

Hole 4: Long uphill par 3. Green slopes back to front. Front edge rolls away from the green.

Hole 5: Narrow par 4 opens up a little on the right. Fence to the right of cart path. Fairway slopes hard left to right so everything ends up on the right. Green has two tiers. Front is higher then the back.

Hole 6: Elevated par 3. Plays 20-25 yards less

Hole 7: Dogleg right par 5. Fairway slopes severely toward the green at the 150. Plays shorter than it looks for your approach.

Hole8: Steep par 3. Play it like a chip shot. Bring extra clubs and water because it is a long walk from the cart

Hole9: Keep you tee shot left. Otherwise you bring a couple of palm trees into play. Huge hidden bunker in front of green that you will not see from the fairway approach. 2nd shot plays long.
